Barbara Eden (Jeannie) and crew, on the Bottle set of I Dream of Jeannie. Photographer/s unknown.
The show ran on NBC from 1965-1970, but the first season (65/66) was in black and white. The actual bottle used during that season was painted black, with a gold pattern, so that the contrast would pop on viewers’ b&w TV screens. At least one script - the pilot - referred to the bottle as “green.”
When the show switched to color in season two (66/67), the Art Director came up with the now-famous mainly pinkish-purple color scheme. Therefore, these shots must be from 66/67 or later.
By the by, I recently learned that Jeannie’s bottle was a special 1964 Christmas edition decanter … from Jim Beam.
I may finally have found the root cause of my lifelong love of bourbon.
